The Role of the Careers Team
As a team, we work with our students throughout their secondary schooling to develop:
n Self Awareness (reflecting on their own values, attributes, skills and goals)
n Career Exploration (investigate, explore and experience the world of work)
n Career Decision Making (decision making strategies and the potential impact on their future)
n Career Management Skills (developing the skills for successful transition from school to further work, training or employment)
Who are the ‘Careers Team’?
n Leanne Healey – MIPs Coordinator. Managed Individual Pathways, School Based Apprenticeships, GGT / Apprenticeships / Traineeships etc.
n Karen Burgess – Careers Coordinator. Career exploration, Work Experience, Further Study – University/TAFE/Private Institutions etc.
n Pastoral Care Teachers
n Year Level Coordinators
n Later Years Team: Welfare, VASS, TAFE/VET, Record Keeping etc.
Basically, we all work as a team with a focus on getting the best result for each student!!
Getting the Best Results!
n The Students – must work with us in a cooperative fashion. Need to take responsibility to keep informed and use the resources available to them!
n Parents – play a key role in encouraging students to reflect on their position and make informed choices about their future. Also need to explore information available to them.
School – teachers and support staff will continue to work hard with students and parents! Maffra Secondary College has good support from the Principal and management team to maintain meaningful careers roles within our infrastructure.
