In a traditional sense, the purpose of secondary schooling is to prepare students of the next stage of their life – further study, training or employment. To be successful however, students need to have a good understanding of their interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses. They need to have explored a range of options and be well informed to make the best decision for them.
At Maffra Secondary College we pride ourselves on having pathways data among the highest in the state. Our careers team work extremely hard to ensure every student is placed, with a university, TAFE, an apprenticeship or employment. Typically we achieve a placement rate of close to if not at 100% each year, and we wouldn’t settle for anything less.
We know things aren’t always straightforward. The university course may have not been what you thought, or the employer isn’t great to work for. Our careers team follow up with every students six months after they leave school to check in on how they’re going. If things are going to plan, we re-engage to help you find an alternative, something you can be really passionate about. Because if our students aren’t successful, we haven’t done our job.
