Broadening Horizons

Presented in Melbourne by not one, but two Nobel Prize winners, Maffra Secondary College received the inaugural Graeme Clarke Oration for its Broadening Horizons program.

The Broadening Horizons initiative is aimed at raising the aspiration of young people in our regional area. Through community partnerships with Regional Development Victoria, Department of Primary Industry, Department of Health and Human Services, Wellington Shire, and a number of local businesses, Maffra Secondary College is able to provide a truly unique learning experience.

Over an eight week program, Year 8 students engage in a self-directed science enquiry, which is supported by expert mentors from these organisations. Mentors work with students directly in the classroom, and in turn students have the opportunity to visit the mentors’ respective organisations.
